Clean Air Campaign Recognizes and Rewards Coweta Green Commuters

June 21, 2013

Representatives from the Clean Air Campaign were on hand yesterday in Coweta County to honor green commuters and encourage others to give commute alternatives a try.

“This was a very successful event,” according to Kate Wilson, Employer Program manager with The Clean Air Campaign. “I know a lot of people started thinking about carpooling and biking for the first time, and that’s one thing we really want to do – just plant the seed at first and let them think about it.” In all, 15 carpoolers, two bicyclists and one transit rider were recorded and received prizes for doing their part to increase air quality and decrease traffic congestion.

Public Hearings Scheduled for I-20 East Transit Study

June 19, 2013

I-20 East Transit Initiative

Work continues on the I-20 East Transit Initiative study, which has been covered in previous Spotlight posts. Incorporating feedback from the stakeholders and the public, staff have identified a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) for transit capital improvements within the I-20 East corridor. The LPA outlines an extension MARTA service in DeKalb County via a heavy rail extension of the blue line from its existing eastern terminus at Indian Creek Station to the Mall at Stonecrest as well as new bus rapid transit service in the I-20 East corridor between Wesley Chapel Road and Downtown Atlanta. The study is now in the environmental phase, which will evaluate the potential benefits and impacts of the the LPA.

MARTA is holding a series of open house meetings on the I-20 study, in which the public will have a chance to learn more about the proposed project.
