Meetings Announced to Discuss Preferred Transit Alternative for I-20 East Corridor

Mentioned in previous Spotlight posts, MARTA continues to work on defining a new premium transit concept for the I-20 East corridor. MARTA staff have identified a Locally Preferred Alternative (LPA) for the corridor, which calls for both an extension of the existing MARTA East/West heavy rail line from its current terminus at Indian Creek Station to the Mall at Stonecrest, as well as a Bus Rapid Transit element to provide service between Downtown Atlanta and the I-20/Wesley Chapel Road area. Adopting an LPA concludes the Alternatives Analysis phase of  the FTA New Starts program for funding and constructing new fixed-guideway transit systems. The process now moves into the Preliminary Engineering phase, in which the LPA is further defined and analyzed for environmental impact.

Three public scoping meetings have been scheduled to allow interested members of the public the chance to learn more about the I-20 East LPA and offer feedback on community or environmental concerns.
