The next installment of ARC‘s Community Planning Academy will take place on September 28th in Decatur and focus on the topic of Complete Streets. Registration for the course, which is eligible for AICP Certification Maintenance credits, starts at $50. Complete Streets are roads designed to meet the needs of all users – vehicular traffic, pedestrians, transit users, cyclists and others. Local governments across the country, as well as several in our region, have adopted and started implementing Complete Streets policies. Positive benefits of Complete Streets include increased connectivity, safe transportation alternatives and healthier and more active communities.
Participants will hear from local-government representatives who have experience implementing Complete Streets policies in the Southeast. Experts from NCDOT, Charlotte DOT and Louisville, KY will all be on hand. This course will give participants a better understanding of the concept of Complete Streets, what elements are customarily included in an effective policy and examples of successful policies that have been implemented.
