Stimulus Dollars Fund Improvements to Newton County Problem Intersection

The  intersection of Turner Lake Road and Clark Street in Newton County is getting a complete makeover to improve traffic and pedestrian safety, thanks to federal stimulus funding.

The project will address traffic congestion and safety issues by installing a roundabout and a pedestrian tunnel under Turner Lake Road, which will provide a key linkage within the Newton County Master Trails Plan. The intersection was closed on June 9 for what is estimated to be a six-month construction project. The entire cost of construction ($775,000) will be paid for with American Recovery and Reinvestment Act (ARRA) funds.  For more information, see this article in the Covington News or the City of Covington’s project information page.
