Rail-with-Trail study moving forward in Spalding County

Spalding County kicked off Roosevelt Railroad Rail-with-Trail study with a public meeting on March 30.  The planning effort is sponsored by Spalding County and the Atlanta Regional Commission.  The trail idea received positive public response from more than 20 members of the public present.  The next public meeting will take place on June 3.

DOT Secretary LaHood: “livability means giving folks the flexibility to choose their own mobility”

U.S. DOT Secretary Ray LaHood spoke up in support of non-motorized transportation at the 10th National Bike Summit that took place in D.C. during the second week of March.  As the official U.S. DOT policy indicates, “every transportation agency, including DOT, has the responsibility to improve conditions and opportunities for walking and bicycling and to integrate walking and bicycling into their transportation systems.”  Below is a short video of LaHood’s “tabletop speech” on the matter.

SPLOST pennies at work in Forsyth County
